Frequently Asked Questions

What is Mori AI Search and how does it differ from keyword‑based search or a chatbot?

Mori AI Search is a semantic WordPress search engine. Instead of literal keyword matching, it builds AI embeddings of your content and ranks results by meaning, with extra weighting by post type and tag filters. It isn’t a chatbot. It powers your site search through a REST API so you can keep your own UI and get fast, context‑aware results. It can also recognize utility queries like “main pages” or “site map” to return your primary navigation.

Mori uses OpenAI’s API with your own API key. During indexing it generates embeddings to represent the meaning of each page or document, and it uses GPT models to propose tags and extract keywords. Model versions are managed on the OpenAI side, so improvements roll in without changing the plugin.

ghjzxcvMori builds a structured index from your WordPress content, including pages, posts, custom post types, and selected attachments like PDFs. When someone searches, Mori computes similarity between the query and your indexed content, applies weights and filters, then returns the top results. You can provide “Additional context” in settings, which is sent with queries and can be used when generating an answer, so results stay grounded in your content.

  1. Install and activate Mori AI Search.
  2. Open Settings → Mori AI Search and add your OpenAI API key.
  3. Optionally set a system prompt and additional context, and upload PDFs you want indexed.
  4. Start a reindex. Mori queues content and processes it in background batches.
  5. Use the REST endpoint /ai-search/v1/search in your front end or connect it to your existing theme’s search UI.

Yes. Mori provides the engine and API. It does not replace your front‑end search template, so you can wire it into any theme or build a custom experience.

Basic setup requires no code: add your API key and run the indexer. Then you can add the search functionality via the WordPress menu or a shortcode.

Mori indexes pages, posts, custom post types, and attachments. PDFs uploaded in the Mori settings are sent for text extraction and are included in search results as attachments. Right now, we don’t include any other attachment types at this time (i.e. .docx, .xlsx, etc.).

No. Indexing runs asynchronously in small batches via WP‑Cron, and embedding inputs are trimmed to about 8k tokens per item. The index lives in its own MySQL table for fast lookups, and the API ranks candidates and then returns only the top results. These choices keep search responsive without slowing page loads.

Yes. Use the WordPress.org support forum linked on the plugin page. You can also enable debug mode to get detailed scoring and filter information in API responses while you diagnose issues.
